New Jersey Property Tax Relief Programs
2005 FAIR Rebate
New Jersey homeowners who are 65 or older, blind, or disabled will begin receiving
their 2005 New Jersey FAIR rebate application packets next week. Residents
who receive a packet should read it carefully, and if they meet the eligibility
requirements, complete the worksheet prior to filling either by phone or online.
FAIR rebate checks are scheduled to be mailed to qualified senior and disabled
applicants at the beginning of August.
The Division of Taxation has made every effort to identify those homeowners who are 65 years of age or older, however, some homeowners who turned 65 or became disbabled during 2005 may have been missed. Any eligible homeowner who was 65 or oler or blind or disabled as of December 31, 2005, who does not receive their application packet by May 16 should call the FAIR Rebate Hotline at 1-888-238-1233 for assistance.
General information is also available at www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/fair/trhomeowner.htm. The Taxation e-mail adress for FAIR rebate questions is nj.fairrebate@treas.state.nj.us.
Homeowner
Your FAIR rebate application will be mailed to you after the end
of the income tax filing season in April, and you will apply for your rebate
either online or by phone.
You are eligible for a 2005 NJ FAIR homeowner rebate if you have your permanent legal residence in NJ and you meet the following conditions:
You owned & occupied a home in NJ that was your principal residence on October 1, 2005; and
Your gross income for all of 2005 is $200,000 or less; and
Your principal residence is subject to local property taxes, & property taxes are paid on that residence.
New Jersey residents are not eligible for FAIR homeowner rebates if no property
taxes are paid on their dwellings.
For the tax year 2004, the minimum rebate for homeowners is $500 and the maximum
is $1,200 (but not more than the amount of property taxes actually paid).
